The Staff Assistants to the Board of County Commissioners provides professional support to full-time County Commissioners and functions as part of the County Administrative Office Team. The work performed in this position will allow the selected candidate to participate in making an impact throughout Washington County’s communities and across a breadth of service programs accomplished by our staff and partners. This position provides an opportunity to build relationships with and between elected officials at all levels of government, as well as community partners and stakeholders in county work.
 
 Staff Assistants are part of a team of assistants within the County’s administrative office. Our office focuses on implementing a One Washington County approach to services, and the role of the staff assistant is work as a key connector between the elected officials, staff, stakeholders, and the community.

 A successful candidate for this position will embrace a fast-paced, dynamic office environment and apply skills to move from idea to action quickly and accurately. They will demonstrate success in receiving initial high-level direction to execute projects goals and outcomes with a high attention to detail. The day-to-day work of a Staff Assistant to the Board shifts from scheduling to developing and/or reviewing talking points; from serving as a confidential sounding board to coordinating with partners inside and outside of the County organization. The candidate also needs to be able to work with discretion within political circumstances, using professional and political judgment to support the work of the Commissioners they serve and the functions of the County Administrative Office. Therefore, the candidate needs to demonstrate a high degree of adaptability and flexibility in a work setting as well as the ability to move from task to task using constantly evolving processes to meet goals.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in public or business administration, or a related field; AND Three (3) years of policy analysis and development experience related to the position within a public, private, or non-profit entity. OR
  • Associate's Degree in public or business administration, or a related field; AND Five (5) years of policy analysis and development experience related to the position within a public, private, or non-profit entity. OR
  • High school diploma or GED AND seven (7) years of policy analysis and development experience related to the position within a public, private, or non-profit entity.

 

Additional Requirements:

  • Must possess a valid driver’s license and maintain an acceptable driving record throughout the course of employment.
  • Completion of a comprehensive background check.
