The Washington County District Attorney's Office is currently seeking a  Senior Legal Specialist to join the team!

 

The Position
The Senior Legal Specialist will support the implementation of House Bill 4002 which makes dramatic changes to Oregon law regarding addiction and drug policy. A key aspect of these changes recriminalizes drug possession. As part of this change, counties will need to set up deflection programs and implement mandatory conditional discharge (diversion) court programs and supervised probation programs. This position will be housed in the District Attorney's Office and will provide support to various departments involved in the Deflection Program. 

Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate will have advanced critical thinking skills, a strong attention to detail, and a high level of accuracy in the work product.  In addition, they will have strong interpersonal and communication skills, the ability to multi-task while managing multiple deadlines, and be adaptable to change.  Working independently and in a collaborative manner with attorneys, staff, and members of the Health and Human Service community is essential in this role.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • High school diploma or equivalent; AND Five (5) years of experience in a legal and/or professional office as outlined below by specialty area.
  • A Bachelor’s or Associate’s degree in a related field or a paralegal certificate may substitute for two (2) years of experience.

 

Criminal Prosecution

  • Five (5) years of experience providing administrative or clerical support, three (3) years of which must be equal to the level of Legal Specialist II, in a public or private law office or in an office environment with a focus on legal issues; OR Five (5) years of experience providing administrative or clerical support, two (2) years of which is in a prosecutor’s office.
  • A Bachelor’s or Associate’s degree in a related field or a paralegal certificate may substitute for two (2) years of experience.

Background Investigation
This position may require an additional criminal history background investigation, post job offer.
